Denver-Area Loads Next Weekend: Put the I-270 Bridge Closure in the Dispatch Notes

Published · TRACKS™ Editorial

CDOT plans an eastbound I-270/US 36 bridge closure over I-25 October 23–26, with another weekend planned in November. Here is what to verify before the load moves.

A closure to plan for, not a road closed today

CDOT’s October 14 announcement schedules closure of the eastbound I-270/US 36 bridge over I-25 from 10 p.m. Friday, October 23, to 6 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2026. The I-270 ramp to northbound I-25 is also affected. Times are Mountain. A second closure is planned for November 6 at 10 p.m. through November 9 at 6 a.m. The agency says schedules can change. As of this October 16 article, these are upcoming windows.

Understand which movement your load needs

For eastbound through traffic, CDOT’s announced detour uses southbound I-25, the right two lanes toward Exit 214A, and eastbound I-70. The accompanying original schematic shows that sequence only; it is not a full map or approval for a particular truck configuration. The important dispatch question is where the load goes after that movement. A delivery requiring northbound I-25 is not the same trip as continuing east. Review the official notice for the relevant movement and check current truck or permit restrictions. Do not infer a complete route from a three-step graphic.

CDOT’s eastbound through detour. EASTBOUND US 36 / I-270: Exit onto southbound I-25.; SOUTHBOUND I-25: Use the right two lanes for Exit 214A.; EASTBOUND I-70: Merge onto I-70. Confirm your onward truck route separately.

Use the advance notice to protect the appointment

Our recommendation is to mark affected loads now, while the appointment can still be discussed. Record the planned approach, the receiver’s truck entrance and the time the route was checked. Ask dispatch when it wants an updated arrival estimate if traffic grows. For a practical planning exercise, imagine that the receiver has a narrow unloading window. Work backward from that window using the revised route and a realistic stopping plan. If those pieces do not fit, discuss a change before departure rather than expecting the driver to recover time in the work zone. No fixed delay allowance is reliable for every load.

Recheck the official schedule before rolling

CDOT directs travelers to COtrip for current road conditions. Use the official notice and live conditions together: one explains the planned work, while the other can help show whether the travel situation has changed. Keep this article as a dated planning note. Reopening times, detours and restrictions should be checked again for the actual trip. An early conversation between driver, dispatch and receiver is the part of the plan you can control today.
