I-380 Night Deliveries: Two Iowa Ramp Closures to Put on Next Week’s Dispatch Sheet
Iowa DOT schedules overnight ramp work October 21–23. Match the affected movement to the delivery entrance before promising an arrival time.

What Iowa DOT has scheduled
In its October 16 notice, Iowa DOT schedules the southbound I-380 exit to Penn Street to close on two nights: October 21 at 10 p.m. through October 22 at 6 a.m., and October 22 at 10 p.m. through October 23 at 6 a.m. The announced detour continues to Exit 2 at Forevergreen Road and returns north. These are local Iowa times, and the work is weather permitting. This is an upcoming ramp closure, not a closure of all I-380 traffic.
A separate entrance is affected Thursday night
The same notice schedules the 120th Street entrance to northbound I-380 to close October 22 at 10 p.m. until October 23 at 6 a.m. Its detour follows Sixth Street SW north toward Wright Brothers Boulevard. Consult the official maps for the complete movement; our graphic is a schedule summary, not turn-by-turn navigation or clearance for an oversize load.
Check the last miles, not just the interstate
Our planning recommendation is to write down which ramp the truck actually needs. A dispatch note that says only “I-380 construction” does not tell a night driver whether the delivery approach or the return trip is affected. Confirm the receiver’s truck entrance and whether an alternative approach reaches that entrance without an unsuitable turn. For a time-sensitive delivery, ask dispatch to agree on a point for an arrival-time update before the affected interchange. Keep the receiver’s instructions with the load paperwork. An announced detour does not establish that every private driveway or nearby street can accommodate the truck.

Treat the notice as a planning input
Recheck the Iowa DOT notice before departure and again while safely parked if conditions change. Schedule changes can make an earlier screenshot incomplete. Keep a legal stopping option in the plan rather than relying on making up time after a missed exit. The useful outcome is a dispatch sheet that identifies the affected ramp, the relevant overnight window and the receiver contact. That is more actionable than a general warning about roadwork, and it gives the next person handling the load the same starting information.
