Tacoma Narrows Truck Trips: Two Westbound Lanes and Jackson Avenue Ramp Restricted Through November 8

Published · TRACKS™ Editorial

WSDOT’s announced around-the-clock repair window began October 24. Check the westbound SR 16 approach before a Gig Harbor delivery; this is more than an overnight lane closure.

Put the direction and ramp into the load note

WSDOT’s repair notice schedules the two right lanes of the westbound SR 16 Tacoma Narrows Bridge closed around the clock from 5 a.m. October 24 through November 8, 2026. The Jackson Avenue on-ramp to westbound SR 16 also closes. The westbound HOV lane is open to all vehicles during the work. The practical distinction is the approach: a truck that normally uses Jackson Avenue needs a different entry plan, even though traffic continues across the bridge. This article reports the announced window, not a live measurement of lane availability or travel time.

An overnight departure does not remove the restriction

The work is for temporary expansion-joint repairs. The agency describes continuous lane closures, so an off-peak departure should not be planned as though the affected lanes reopen each night. Check the current official alert before departure. Our editorial recommendation is to identify whether the appointment can move and who can approve a revised arrival. A receiver may be able to adjust a slot, but that should be confirmed rather than assumed. Keep the agreed window and contact in the load file so a later dispatcher can understand the arrangement.

Calculate the effect using the truck’s own trip

For a delivery beyond the bridge, review the remaining driving time, receiving arrangements and next planned stop using the operation’s actual information. A general congestion warning cannot supply a reliable delay for every truck. Do not add an invented number of minutes and call it a route calculation. If the normal on-ramp is unavailable, have dispatch resolve an appropriate alternative approach for the equipment and load. A passenger-vehicle shortcut may leave questions about turns, local access or restrictions unanswered. This article does not establish a truck detour or approve a particular alternate.

Make the next update actionable

Our suggested driver-to-dispatch message names the direction, intended entry ramp, planned crossing time and customer window. Then identify what needs a decision: a different approach, an appointment change or a fresh arrival estimate. Make the call or send the update only when safe. For recurring Gig Harbor work, date the route note and verify the current status again on the next trip. A saved November 8 end date should not be treated as confirmation that all lanes have reopened. The operational suggestions above are original editorial guidance.
